Hogwarts house costumes are the cheapest and most versatile costumes ever! Don’t get me wrong, Hogwarts stuff can get pricy really quickly. I have a list of Hufflepuff/Hogwarts paraphernalia that I can’t afford.
That aside, Hogwarts everyday cosplays can be inexpensive if you handle it right. And by handle it right, it means don’t care of the crest on the robe looks a little odd.
The best part of this cosplay is there are limitless variations. I’ve got lots of different pieces that I combine into a lot of different looks.
Today, I’m only going to talk about the “everyday cosplay” variation you can do. I’m going to post actual cosplays of Hogwarts students later.
So let’s transport ourselves to one of the greatest schools that existed in the imaginations of thousands of people!
I prefer having a shirt under my white button up because most button up shirts tend to be see through. I have a yellow one (of course, Hufflepuff!) But you can get green, red, or blue as well. You can use regular t-shirt, cap sleeve or spaghetti tank top.
These are also probably best to get at thrift stores or sometimes you can get them at Wal-Mart on the cheap. But as always, here are a few options for you:
These are best to get local and get them cheap. Any leggings work for this. You can even get a little fancy with the leggings (I don’t have them yet, but I’m hoping to soon). Here are a few links to some affordable ones:
Black or Grey bottoms
I’m not going to put any links to this one because you can use whatever you have in your closet. I used black capris and a grey skirt for my two combinations. This is cheap because it should be free!
Again, since this is an everyday cosplay, any shoes work. I always wear black shoes so it have several different pair. These should also be taken from your closet or acquired at the thrift store.
White button up
I highly recommend getting these at a thrift store. You can try them on and generally get them for less than $5. However, if you are opposes to going outside, here are a few links:
Black trench coat
I got my trench coat for $4 at a thrift store. The ones online are $20+. This look can work with any black coat, I just think the trench coat because out looks more like robes.
Sweater (optional and pricey)
I can only dream of getting this sweater. I have too many cosplays going to drop $40+ on a sweater. Also, for an everyday look, this might be a little heavy handed. But, in case you have the extra change, here are the links:
Here’s where we start getting into what makes the outfit look “Potterish.” These are the pieces that you can get for good prices that will get you recognition for your Hogwarts house.
Obviously, for the actual cosplay, the tie is used as a tie. But I use the tie as a headband in my everyday cosplay. There are other uses too, let me know if you come up with any.
If you get the tie without the crest it is a lot cheaper. You can always purchase a crest separately. Here are a few links:
I love this pin/necklace. It’s a little more expensive than the other details, but you can normally get it for around $5. Here is where you can get it:
Here are a few other options:
This is one of my favorite pieces. Very inexpensive and nothing says house pride like the crest in the middle of your forehead. Here are the links:
For my fellow Hufflepuffs: For some reason, these hats are always darker in color than anything else. For Hufflepuff. I haven’t It was slightly frustrating. But as long as you get everything else darker it is ok.
For those of us in colder climates, I think this is the most useful item and it’s my pair of go- to gloves. Here’s a place to get them:
This is my second most used item. I LOVE my scarf. Getting the color to match on all three items is hard…I suggest getting them from the same location. The inexpensive ones aren’t as soft or long as the expensive ones… But look at the pictures!
I might be a little Dobby when it comes to these socks. I wear them all the time. Especially when wearing boots to a classy event… secretly showing my house pride. Quite a few stores carry house socks, but just in case you can’t find them:
