Weirdie Spotlight – Wildelights

This is one of the coolest couples I know. I don’t want to give away the interview, but I really love their cleaver, adorable art. And you can feel good that your money is supporting good causes! 

ISO: Hi, what is your name?

Wildelights – Kendra and Mitchell Moore

ISO: What is your favorite beverage?

Kendra: Chai tea for me
Mitchell: Coke Zero

ISO: What is your favorite food?

Kendra: Cheesecake!!
Mitchell: Chicago style deep dish pizza, hands down.

ISO: What is your favorite sweet?

Kendra: Chocolate covered strawberries – I grew my own this year!
Mitchell: Paydays

ISO: When did you realize you were a weirdie?

Kendra: We only just heard this term, so I guess when we received these interview questions?

ISO: What are your Weirdie interests?

Kendra: I love pursuing various artistic endeavors, and I also want to create responsibly.

ISO: Who are your weirdie idols? Unconventional people you look up to.

Kendra: Felicia Day – She’s a multi-talented entrepreneur.
Mitchell: Keita Takahashi – He’s boundlessly creative and genuinely wants to make the world a better place.

ISO: What gave you the idea to start Wildelights?

Kendra: I really love the ‘Animals of the World’ meme, and I wanted a t-shirt that said Majestic Sea Flap Flap, but was unable to find one I liked.  My husband suggested I create my own, so I did.  Then I just kept going =)

ISO: What makes Wildelights unique?

Kendra: All of our products are ethically sourced.  Our stickers, coloring books, sticker books, bookmarks, and prints are all produced in-house.  Our t-shirts are printed on Bella/Canvas blanks, which are manufactured in Los Angeles.  I try to keep our products as environmentally friendly as possible.
Mitchell: We donate 10% of our proceeds to animal conservation charities and our local Animal Protection League.

ISO: What are your favorite hobbies?

Kendra: Creative things like jewelry design and sewing.
Mitchell: We both love gaming of all kinds.

ISO: What do you love about those hobbies?

Kendra: I love being able to make new things with my hands.
Mitchell: Gaming is a blank canvas where anything can happen, and I love seeing what creative people can do with it.
Kendra: I also like the social aspects of gaming.  We actually met over a game of Magic: The Gathering.  I met another one of my friends during an online game of Dungeons and Dragons.

ISO: What is the most difficult thing for you about being a geek?

Mitchell: Relating to people with no geek interests.

ISO: Who are your favorite fictional characters?

Kendra: Mark Watney, Captian Picard, a lot of the characters from Wheel of Time
Mitchell: Kvothe (Kingkiller Chronicles), Drizzt, Spiderman, Ninja Turtles

ISO: If you could live in or visit any fantasy world, where would you go?

Kendra: Star Trek
Mitchell: Marvel universe, assuming I would get superpowers.

ISO: What are your “fandoms”?

Both: Dr Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Marvel, Farscape, Firefly, Kingkiller Chronicles

Kendra: Wheel of Time
Mitchell: DC, Ninja Turtles, View Askew Universe, Game of Thrones

ISO: What projects are you working on?

Kendra:  We’re coming out with a new round of animals soon.  We just added Labrathor, Lokat, and two unicorn drawings.  Next up are two more PetVengers (Nick Furry and Tony Bark), and 9 other animals – crocodile, fox, giraffe, hedgehog, kangaroo, lion, possum, shark, zebra.  We also just switched our print provider for t-shirts – we were able to reduce the cost and add new shirt colors!

ISO: What projects do you want to do if money and time were no object?

Kendra: If money was truly no object, completely overhaul the American political system.
Mitchell: Open my own game studio.
